Which American city is famous for the cinema industry?
Hollywood, also called Tinseltown, district within the city of Los Angeles, California, U.S., whose name is synonymous with the American film industry.
Los Angeles, California
It's the center of the film industry in the US, if not the world. Home to Hollywood, Los Angeles has made a name for itself as one of the greatest places for any aspiring filmmaker to make a living in.
Since the early 20th century, the U.S. film industry has primarily been based in and around the thirty-mile zone centered in the Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles County, California.
Although most people think Hollywood is the motion picture capital of the world, New Jersey was the real birthplace of the modern film industry. Motion pictures were invented and first produced at Thomas Edison's laboratory and studio in West Orange.
If we made a list of the Most Obvious Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker, New York and Los Angeles would lead it every year. They're the film capitals of the world, unmatched in influence, opportunity and legend.
1 Los Angeles, California
Far and away the most popular location in the world for filming movies and television shows, Los Angeles has been the cultural center for the film industry since the Golden Age of Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s.
Hollywood is the world's oldest national film industry, and largest in terms of box office gross revenue.
Almost Hollywood reveals the meteoric rise of Jacksonville in early silent films. Home to over thirty studios employing actors, directors, and stagehands, Jacksonville became touted as the “winter film capital of the world” by 1915.
Hollywood is a neighborhood located in Los Angeles, California, that's also synonymous with the glamour, money and power of the entertainment industry. As the show-business capital of the world, Hollywood is home to many famous television and movie studios and record companies.
- AMC Loews Uptown, Washington, D.C. ...
- Sundance Kabuki Cinemas, San Francisco. ...
- AMC EMPIRE 25, New York. ...
- Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Austin, Texas. ...
- Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Los Angeles. ...
- Rave Motion Pictures Town Square 18, Las Vegas. ...
- Studio Movie Grill, Wheaton, Ill.
Why do so many movies take place in New Jersey?
New Jersey became the movie industry's home because motion pictures were invented here. William Kennedy Laurie Dickson, a worker at Thomas Edison's West Orange laboratory, invented the first movie viewer and movie camera. The camera was called a kinetograph, and the peephole viewer was called a kinetoscope.
Los Angeles. In the ranking of the most filmed cities in the USA, Los Angeles is way out in front, and the best film production companies worldwide are based in and around Hollywood!
But despite America's diverse 'cast' of locations, California and New York continue to dominate the U.S. cinematic landscape. While California remains best known for its studio productions, you'd probably guess that New York's most filmed location is Central Park — and as our new study proves, you'd be right.
#1 CALIFORNIA
If you're filming in California, you could see as much as 20-25% for all crew returned in the form of a tax credit. There's no sugarcoating it: California can be expensive. BUT, you'll be in the heart of Hollywood, the number-one place to connect and network with top talent.
Rank | State | Productions |
---|---|---|
1 | California | 1,335 |
2 | New York | 573 |
3 | Georgia | 263 |
4 | Louisiana | 79 |
Did Hollywood move out of California? Some Hollywood studios and celebrities have moved out of California in recent years, but the vast majority of the entertainment industry remains in the state.
Theatre Chain | Theatres Count | Screens Count |
---|---|---|
AMC Entertainment | 591 | 7,712 |
Allen Theatres | 18 | 121 |
Apple Cinemas | 3 | 29 |
Atlas Cinemas | 6 | 63 |
New York City's film and television industry is integral to the city's vast arts, media, and entertainment ecosystem, and vice-versa. enjoy a high degree of crossover between film and television and the city's theater, comedy, literature, design, and other creative industries.

Across the board, Los Angeles takes the gold medal, and we're not surprised. According to the study's findings, Griffith Park in LA is the most filmed location of all, and it flaunts 399 credits (and yet not a single Oscar, talk about a snub).
Which states go to the movies the most?
For movie studios, audiences in California, Texas, Florida and New York are key to any recovery. The four states account for close to half of all ticket sales nationwide, and without their moviegoers, film executives say sales won't return to 2019 levels anytime soon.
New York's most filmed location is Central Park, so after a viewing of When Harry Met Sally, Spiderman and Night at the Museum (to name just a few), see if your walk in the park is similar. California and New York are the most filmed states in general, but every state has had movies filmed in it, and perusing the list ...
Los Angeles. In the ranking of the most filmed cities in the USA, Los Angeles is way out in front, and the best film production companies worldwide are based in and around Hollywood!
1 Hollywood Boulevard: Los Angeles, CA
Finally, by far the most filmed street in the United States is Hollywood Boulevard, and it's not even close. The street is the embodiment of Hollywood and the film industry itself, with a grand total of 133 film credits for it throughout the years.
Los Angeles (or, more specifically, Hollywood), due to the city's radio, television, music, and filmmaking, as well as the abundance of tourist and amusement attractions in the region.
Motion picture industry
Also, the weather was ideal for filmmaking and there was quick access to various settings. Los Angeles became the capital of the film industry in the United States. The mountains, plains and low land prices made Hollywood a good place to establish film studios.
Cannes - World capital of cinema. The French Riviera, also known as Côte d'Azur, is located on the southeast coastline of the Mediterranean and has plenty of opportunities for you to visit and get to know the country.
